Another Beautiful Sunday

So after two days of overcast skies and rain we woke up to a sunny day today. We were grateful for the sunshine since we were going to walk to the Usaquen Market with the Thompsons, the Kammeraads, the Tanners, and Pat and Connie from Minnesota. We were also going to meet Monica Schmid and her son (a family from Washington that were also adopting a child) for lunch.
Luciana is always up for an adventure. She is pretty happy go lucky and content being carried in the baby bjorn. Most of the time she sleeps but when she is awake this is her temperament. She is such a happy little girl. I have been told by a certain someone that she takes after her Grandpa Houseman (I can't mention who said it but most of you can figure out who that came from.)

The Usaquen Market has many handmade items with intricate details that we have not seen in the States. Adriana Tanner was gracious to negotiate prices in Spanish to some of the vendors. It was fun to watch how she could lower the price without too much effort.
Since Caroline's departure, Jacob has filled his late afternoons with Camilla. Well, now there is a new kid in town. His name is Carlos Kammeraad (he is a little younger than Jacob). Jacob welcomes the new companion.
Carlos, Santi Tanner, and Jacob enjoy a sucker (provided by Adriana Tanner) in the shade at Usaquen square before venturing into more of the market.

We parted ways with the Tanner family and meandered back to Santa Barbara Mall where we met with Monica and her son Sebastian Schmid. While the adults were getting acquainted the kids found a playground in the courtyard of Santa Barbara Mall to let loose.

Jacob has been working on his vertical jump. His jump is improving and he was able to grab this bar on his own. By the way, his feet are not touching the ground in case anyone was wondering that.

The American group walked back through Usaquen Square to eat lunch at Crepes & Waffles. While we waited for our food Jacob and Carlos got creative with the magic sticks that the restaurant provides for the youngsters.

I believe that one creation was a shark. I am not so sure what they were making here.

Two Sunday's ago when Dave, Jacob, Luciana, and I went to the market we saw a lady trying to sell these puppies. Jacob wanted to pet them then but I did not know how to ask in Spanish if it would be O.K. for him to pet them. Fortunate for us, Monica is fluent in Spanish so she asked if Jacob and Carlos could pet the puppies.

At this point it was around 2 pm and the group dispersed. Monica wasn't ready to head back to her Aunt's apartment and Dave is never ready to go back to the hotel so we walked back to the market.
You don't realize how intense the sun is in Bogota. I had put 50 SPF on my face and Jacob lathered his face and arms but not the back of his neck. He was starting to get red on the back of his neck. Wouldn't you know it right there on the corner just happened to be a gentleman selling sombreros. The kids selection was not very large, only two different types of hats. The most popular hat for the kids was the President's hat. He admired his new look in the mirror before picking out a hat for Dave. Jacob really liked this hat with the big black buckle on it that Dave is wearing in the picture. Monica and I were not on the same wave length as Jacob. Needless to say, Dave opted for a similar style without the large black belt.

Before heading back to the hotel we stopped for a quick photo with Monica and Sebastian.

We had a great day and thoroughly look forward to next week Sunday when we can return to the Market. In the meantime, we will find other adventures and places of destination in this beautiful country.
