Today we had a mission. I cannot write what our goal was because it would ruin the surprise for a certain someone. What I can tell you is what we did after we accomplished our mission. (I hope that I have several people wondering if they are that certain someone. Most people never outgrow the suspense of a surprise.)
Anyway, back to what our day consisted of. What I can tell you is that the taxi dropped us off by Atlantis Mall. So we were back in slightly familiar territory. We headed to Park 93 on foot. Jacob was getting weary from the walk and felt like there wasn't really a purpose for leisurely walking to Park 93. His desire was to go back to the hotel for lunch. He was feeling hot and was not motivated to continue on so we had to stop and rest in the shade.
It took some encouraging and convincing Jacob that the Park was at the next corner and he could rest again. Once we made it to the park the four of us sat on a bench in the shade and watched the locals. Both men and women were mostly dressed in black with the women in high heels. Dave and I were entertained by some of the women with their at least three inch heels. I felt comfortable and steady in my Saucony shoes.
After a half an hour or so of people watching we headed toward the swings were I found shade to sit in with Luciana and Dave assisted Jacob on the swing.
Before too long a lone boy around Jacob's age walked over to the empty swing next to Jacob. Prior to the new boy's arrival Jacob was half heartily swinging. He was wanting Dave to push him. Well, when this boy hopped on the other swing the silent competition was on. Who could swing higher than the other. It was quite comical to watch. They would both pump their legs and look over at the other to see who was higher. All the while trying not to smile. The fun ended when we called Jacob off the swing to go grab some lunch. In the back of our mind we were thinking that we should eat lunch and return to the hotel before we have difficulty hailing a taxi. The experience with Kristi was all too fresh in our minds.
Right on the corner was a Bogota Beer Company. We had heard good things about this restaurant so two of the three of us that could voice our opinions opted to try it out. Once in the restaurant we noted that the menu selection included pizza, hotdogs, and chips and cheese. The third party was adamant about not eating any of the food since he had spotted a Subway right next door. When the waiter returned I apologized and said "Mi hijo no le gusta. Lo siento." and off we went to Subway.
I tell you, we are learning a lot of lessons in Colombia. I ordered two 30 cm subs with a combination meal and the cashier told me that it would be 42,000 pesos. That is roughly $22. Whatever happened to a five dollar foot long?
Jacob said that his sub was the best sub that he has ever had. He thought that the Colombian Subway was so much better than any Subway in Michigan. You can see how happy the sub made him.
After we finished our fine dining experience we crossed the street back to Park 93 in hopes of hailing a taxi. The first empty taxi that approached Dave hailed it with confidence. Way to go Dave!
We got back to the hotel around 2:30 and then turned around and went back out again with the Kammeraad's to go to Exito for more diapers and formula. Jacob did not complain about walking since he was joined by Carlos. He did enjoy this walk because the result was that he purchased three new Bakugan.
Jacob overall had a good day. He ended his day on a high note. He ate supper in the kitchen with Camilla and then played hide and go seek with Camilla and Carlos. Bedtime comes too quickly in Bogota.
I am enjoying your blog so much! Your stories are great, you are a talented writer. Let me know if you need anything! Blessings, Sarah
